Could I Still Be Pregnant Despite Having Spotting Along With Negative UPT?

Hi we have been trying to conceive for months. We have had sex every day that I was ovulating as well as nearly every other day this month i am a few days late and might have a possible urinary tract infection. I noticed a small amount of blood a few days ago. I am unsure if that was in my urine or spotting. I took a pregnancy test and it came back negative. Could i be pregnant or even a possible ectopic pregnancy.

Hello,

I can understand your concern. The presence of hormone HCG in urine released during pregnancy is detected in pregnancy test to show positive or negative pregnancy test. This hormone is released in normal as well as ectopic pregnancy so even if you had ectopic pregnancy, the pregnancy test will show positive.

If you want to confirm, you can take the test with other brand which is more sensitive. I would advise you to go for a blood test for pregnancy which almost never fails to detect pregnancy.

For the presence of blood, if it was vaginal spotting, it could be implantation bleeding which is expected due to conceiving. In addition, you can give your urine for analysis to detect presence of urinary tract infection. I am not advising you medicines for UTI right now as we are not sure regarding your pregnancy status and it has to be considered before prescribing you any medicine. So let us be assured if you have confirmed UTI and then treatment can be discussed.

I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. take care.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
